To Be A Blessing

I find myself being challenged this morning by God to truly understand what it means to Be A Blessing! As we continued in our study of the Beatitudes: Living a Life of Blessing, I found myself desperately desiring for God to  use me at higher levels to bless the people around me. Last night at the Journey we dove into the second of the beatitudes found in Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." As I sit and reflect on the tremendous amount of loss that has been experienced in the Journey, at Peoples Church, and in this community in 2010, I find myself overwhelmed with the responsibility we have as believers. In Romans 12 the Bible calls us to "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." What an incredible responsibility and privilege.

As we seek opportunities to be a blessing we must understand how many people in this world are physically, emotionally, and spiritually mourning. Life throws so many challenges at us on a daily basis, and many of these trials become more than we can bear on our own. In 2 Corinthians 1:3 we see that God is our comforter, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." The word comfort in this passage in the Greek means literally "to call to the side of" or "to call near." This assures us that as we walk through impossible circumstances and loss that bring intense pain, God literally comes along side of us and call us near to Himself. What an amazing promise, and one that should lead us to the same response. As we are comforted and strengthened, we must look for opportunities to come alongside our friends, family, and people that God brings across our path!

Be a Blessing today, make an intentional investment in someone as God pours His blessings into your life for the sole purpose that you might use those same blessings to bless the people around you!
